Looks like it's finally happening and I now may need to replace the abs actuator. Over the last two weeks, the dash has lit up like a xmas tree with "ABS malfunctioned, VSC, etc". Lexus dealer wants $2,300 or $2,400 cant recall right now, which is it's crazy that this particular part which is known to fail it's still this expensive. Anyhow, have a friend with a shop and with his discount, I can get it for $1,780 and change. Trying to figure out best route to move forward. Ebay has a bunch of used units, but for all I know I may be buying an unit that is also about to fail and throwing away $700 dollars. There is also so many different part numbers, that it's hard to keep track of all of them. Does anyone know if the abs unit found in the 2013-2017 LS460 would be a direct match for a 2008 GS460? I contacted www.upfix.com as I read somewhere that they had successfully rebuilt these units in the past, but they are no longer providing that service. Any recommendation/suggestions are welcome.
Also GS460 in Florida. Lexus North Miami wanted $3500. I ended up getting a new OEM one from Toyota, $1700 and paid a JM Lexus to install and program it, since it required techstream. Altogether around $2,500 in 2021. Part number:

Thanks for the info. Was the $1,700 price from Toyota their out the door price or did you get some sort of discount? Was not aware you could get lexus parts at Toyota. Which Toyota dealer? Lexus of Kendall is near me, so can definitely driver over to them for the install job.
You might take a look through this thread, particularly the last post where the member compiled a list of apparently equivalent part numbers. I didn't get too deep into the details, but I believe one of the posters said that they used the part number designated for a late teens(?) Camry Hybrid in their GS.
If you were to go the route of using an alternate part number, you'd of course not be able to use dealership service for the install, and some independent shops might balk at it too (mine objected strongly enough that I dropped the idea).
We all have different levels of cost and risk that we're willing to accept. If a pulled unit is simply an unacceptable risk to you, that's fine. The way I see it, if you consider it worth investigating part numbers you can confirm will work, a pull from a 2017 is likely a better risk than a pull from a 2008. Also parts from a Toyota tend to be priced lower than parts from a Lexus.
And yes, the parts and sometimes the part numbers for Toyota and Lexus parts can be the same. The original actuator assembly in my 06 430 said "Toyota" on the label (as you can see in @Oceans13 's picture above).
It's really unfortunate that the motor isn't available as a separate part as it was with earlier models...those motors are available for less than $100 and can apparently be changed without needing to bleed the brakes.
Good luck to you.
Edit to say I was curious enough to pull up some of the part numbers on ebay, and I'm not sure why this wasn't pointed out, but ones that don't direct back to Lexus GS models look the same but have the cable connection on the opposite side, so they are bum numbers as far as I can tell, sorry for that rabbit hole.
I did however notice something that would be promising *IF* the motors are the same part...which the motor wearing out is the usual culprit, not the rest of the assembly (the characteristic clicking/ticking sound has to do with brushes in the motor and "flat spots" that develop)

$1700 was through a friend of a friend employee discount at Toyota Weston. I've never been to Lexus of Kendall, but I highly recommend JM Lexus for a service. I could recommend a service advisor if you like. I had my water pump, spark plugs, PCV valve, and brake work done there.
***UPDATE***
Ended up ordering the ABS from Lexus of Kendall. Saved around $445 on the part itself by ordering through a friend who has an auto shop. List price for a new unit is $2,222.40, I paid $1,777.92. Almost went with a used unit on Ebay, but in the end I couldn't bring myself to pay $700 plus for unit that could potentially go out at any time. I'm not sure if Lexus ever fixed their design flaw and these new units will not have the same fate as the original ones, but at the very least I can expect a few good years out of the new ABS. Went to a local independent shop and had them replace the ABS, bleed the brake lines and re-program everything. I've been driving for 3 days so far and no codes and brakes feel great again. GS460 lives to fight another day. Old Unit New Unit

Just to clarify, you bought the part from an Toyota dealer and took it to an Lexus dealer to install it? I thought Lexus dealers will not allow you to bring your "own" part. Even if this part came from an toyota dealer?
@Oceans13 mentioned that he got his ABS via a friend at Toyota of Weston and suggested I call around a Toyota dealer near me, as sometimes you can get the same Lexus OEM parts at cheaper prices. I called a few Toyota dealers but had no luck. Ultimately ordered the new ABS unit from Lexus of West Kendall and had an independent auto repair shop do the installation. If I'm not mistaken @Oceans13 knows a tech that works at JM Lexus and had him do the installation(I'm guessing off site). Normally, you are correct in that OEM dealers do not let you bring your own parts as that the markup they make on parts is significant. if you know of an independent repair shop that specializes in Lexus, I would go to them for the installation after you purchase the new ABS unit form an from a Lexus dealer near you(if you go that route).
Correct. Bought from toyota and had JM lexus install. Over the years they also did my water pump / thermostat, spark plugs / tubes, and changed the PCV valve, all on site. I believe they also programmed my TPMS, after a few local shops couldn't. Never an issue with them using my own OEM (Denso / Aisin) parts.
