Default Tire Pressure Senors (TPMS)

I have a 2008 Lexus GS350 and according to the dealer I need to replace all the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Sensors. The price from Lexus was $1,300 total (parts was $155 and labor $170 each tire). Thats a lot of money to check the air pressure in the tires. However, has anybody used an after market sensors and having for example a Goodyear Tire dealer to complete the work. I realize the tires will all need to be re-balanced and all the sensors programed to the car’s computer. My plan is to maybe get the sensors from Lexus and have a local Tire Dealer or a Toyota dealer do the work. Anybody have any suggestions.

Thanks

Many we buy sensors from rockauto.com the brand is Denso there about $35 each sensor. Denso, is a supplier to toyota/lexus so these parts are like if not the same as the ones you buy at the dealer. For sensor, its important to snap a clear pic of each box and serial number of each new sensor, then take it to most tire shop and just tell them install these sensors. Let them know you have the serial numbers of each sensor, this will make logging the new sensors into the ecu much quicker for them.

Im also seeing Bosch brand with aluminim valve core for sale on rockauto for $20 bucks a sensor, that not a bad price. Personally I went with the denso, but now the bosch option is available I would gone with the bosch

I bought OEM on rockauto and had a local shop do the install. They couldnt program it so I took it to the dealer and they did with Techstream.

Avoid the stealership and high cost.

Denso sensors from Rockauto are a good value. I bought genuine Toyota sensors online from McGeorge Toyota in Richmond Va for $280 3 years ago. Had my local Discount Tire install and program for another $10/tire. Balancing wasn't necessary, imo, due to exact physical sensor size/change. The dealer is killing you there with mounting, balancing and pairing each sensor with the car.

I guess it depends how long you plan on keeping the car as to whether you spend more for OEM. With OEM sensors, I feel I'm good for another 13 years...like the originals.

Good luck. It's always nice to turn off an annoying light on the dash.

It will definitely work.
I did a write-up regarding steps required on this page:

Just bought some oem Denso off Rockauto, about 44 each. I paid a shop to install them and program them myself with Tech stream on my virtual machine. total should be about $300 max with sensors and installation.

This is an update on replacing Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Sensors on my 2008 Lexus GS350 and after some research Costco was able to replace and program them for $250 for all four including parts and labor. Lexus Dealer's price was a rip off.

Aftermarket sensors. But just go on Rockauto and buy sensors for $45 each and have a shop install and program them.

Default Denso vs Costco

I probably will just buy the Densos Rockauto., $35 each and discount tire wil install then for $20 each. Schraders are only $24 each. The sensors Discount TIre wants $65 each are $16 on Rockauto. The OEM ones are going on 14 years and from what I read Denso buys them from Pacific Industrial which is OEM.

Could you share your discount code with me? I am also going to buy some DENSO TPMS sensors off RA pretty soon.

Thanks

Specifically, the Denso sensor model 550-0103 is literally the exact same part as you'd get if you purchased from the Lexus / Toyota dealership part number 4260733022. Toyota gets the part as an OEM part from Denso, who gets the part from Pacific Industrial Company. The original sensors that game in the 3GS are Pacific part number PMV-107J, which corresponds to Denso 550-0102, and Toyota / Lexus 42607-33021. Pacific updated the sensor, and the new part is PMV-C11A, Denso 550-0103, Toyota/Lexus 4260733022.

The ID numbers on the sensors need to be programmed into the 3GS' tire pressure monitor computer. Most shops should be able to do this now. Take. a picture of the sensors prior to installation, so you can read the ID, and then have your shop or dealership program them. My local Costco installed the new sensors for free when I got new tires, and I programmed via TechStream, but if that isn't an option, replacing all 4 sensors should cost:

$34.79 x 4 = $139.16
Dismount / remount tires: $20 x 4 = $80
Program sensor IDs: $120

Total: $339.16 for 4 new OEM sensors, programmed, that should last another 10-20 years.
