I've seen it done before but looking for information or a thread about. How do you swap the gear selector with a newer model that has a boot on it? I'm assuming the entire center wood piece would have to come up, I think there's some screws on the bottom that I can just replace the shifter housing. But I'm not sure. Is there a thread on this?

 

There's a good YouTube video about this, I don't have the link but it shouldn't be too hard to find.

 

I've seen a video about how to swap the boot on a third gen IS with a later model. Or maybe it was swapping the boot of a GS in. 4th gen GS for the boot for a 3rd gen IS. Something like that. Not sure. But I haven't seen a video about upgrading the gear selector for our 3rd gens.
