I know this has come up before and I have read many posts but still having issue. We bought the car with only one Gray Key that works on doors, glovebox and trunk. When you insert into the ignition the security light stays on for several seconds so pretty sure while it fits all locks its a valet. I just replaced all motors in the original lock actuators and 2 broken cables. All door locks work and key locks and unlocks all door from drivers side and passanger side door. I purchased a key from amazon with the 4C Chip, (199802005 HYQ1512V). This key has been cut and I was planning on taking to a locksmith who can re-set the ECU so the key can be paired. Before doing that I wanted to program the remote. My understanding is that you can program a remote without that key first being paired, (please correct me if I am wrong), by using the working valet key as a dummy key to go thru the programming procedure. I have tried many times and it goes into programming mode but never get past the open/close 2 times which means programming failed. I also tried erasing all keys and counting keys, (I believe it is set to 5 based on instructions I followed).

At this point I am just trying to confirm if I should be able to add the remote before pairing the key before spending the money to have the ecu re-flashed. Or maybe because the ECU has 5 keys already it has reached the max and they can not be erased with the valet key?

I also found instructions to verify the remote transmitter is working. While it chirped as described in this doc it did so for short durations vs longer durations as described.
