Howdy y'all, I have a 2001 gs430. It has a p1780 code for pnp switch. I've driven it 3 times in the last 3 months due to it behind kinda clapped and blowing out the radiator. The first time, it needed a lil extra gas to get moving. Last times I drove I had to bounce off limiter to get it moving, and now it doesn't move. The PRND32L all light up when going through all of them on the cluster. All I've done is add ATF cuz dude said it was almost empty, and just ordered a new switch. Engine is good, no other code other than that. Could this really keep it from moving at all? Or is the trans toast?
"Ordered a new switch"? Which one Please. The code seems to point to a switch in the transmission.
Now I don't want to disparage anyone. But I use the owners manual and check the fluid levels myself. Step one. I'm assuming that the car ran fine when the ATF was almost gone. Added ATF and problems start. Hmmm.

The PNP switch on/in the trans. That's what the code was for so figured I'd try that. As for the ATF, should I drain some out then? It wasnt perfect before adding more. Still took way more gas and time to get it moving than any other car I've driven, and reverse never worked.
That I cannot tell you. But here is the procedure for checking ATF Fluid level. You'll be better served by checking yourself just to know for certain if the transmission is over filled.
