lost valet key
I lost my valet key. If I use a new aftermarket key and fob, is it possible to just unlock the door manually with a cut key and without programming the FOB? I just want to do that so I can unlock my car when I get locked out?
Hello,
Here is a Valet key for your car, it is not that expensive, and is pretty easy to program, below is the video. The thing about a Valet key is that its internals are identical to the regular key, the difference is just the way it is cut and programmed. It was a nice feature many years ago, but now I am not sure if you really need the key that can't open glove box or trunk, and that can't program new keys, so I would suggest cutting and programming the key linked above as a Master key.
The thing about unlocking doors with the key, not with a fob, is that it puts the Security system one step away from triggering an alarm, so if you unlock other doors from the inside or hit a car, there is a chance it may trip the alarm, which you won't be able to disarm without a Master key. Fobs can be found used on eBay or at the junkyard for pretty cheap, or you can get an aftermarket option, the only thing to pay attention to is an FCC ID written on the back, here is a page from an Owners Manual that specifies which ID to look for. Programming it is also a simple process, it is demonstrated in the video below as well.
Hope this helps and best of luck!
