Default Keys for my 2008 RX400h

I have 2 keys for my Lexus RX400h. I had a transponder key cut for my lexus but needs to be programmed. It is a transponder key that was cut using my keycode. My question is, can I use this key to just open the car if it is locked and not use it in the ignition? I don't want my car to get locked down.

Also, I bought a key with the buttons but no guts in the head of the key, can I take the guts out of my original key and put them into the new case ? I also had a the key cut with the empty case. I would like to use this in the ignition.

Yes you can use the key to open the door.

Pictures will help us help you. I can not imagine what you have.

Yes you can move the inside pieces into a new key shell and not need to program.

can I buy a key off of ebay and have it programmed and cut without going through the Lexus dealership? I am not near a big city.

Many independent locksmiths can program the keys for your car. Call and ask. They are usually much less than the dealer.
