2JZ from '91 GS in my '64 Rambler, question on overdrive
Hey all,
I am getting close to having my ol RambLex running down the road. Currently I'm working on gear selector linkage between my column and the GS300 transmission. I have 3" of travel in my cable (most I could find easily). The GS300 lever on the transmission was moved by rod / linkage and has about 4" of travel to get from P to L. My question is, can anyone tell me the difference between D and 4? Because the shift **** only moves sideways, I suspect the transmission lever does not move and there is essentially an OD off switch in the console that gets pushed when you would pull the shift **** sideways. If this is the case, I'm curious to know if the default (switch open) is D or 4th. I have some wiring to clean up including connecting the neutral safety switch into my start circuit and will have to figure out how to wire in a manual OD switch some place or just live without the ability to turn it off .
Custom made core support to allow use of GS radiator and fans.

Looked at a couple of wiring diagrams from that era they say the same thing
Not clear what the input to OD2 is when the switch is not going to ground, but for overdrive to be enabled the switch is open. Put another way if you don't connect the O/D switch you should have overdrive working.
4.OVERDRIVE CIRCUIT
* O/D MAIN SW ON
WHEN THE O/D MAIN SW IS TURNED ON (O/D OFF INDICATOR LIGHT TURNS OFF), A SIGNAL IS INPUT TO TERMINAL OD2 OF THE
COMPUTER AND COMPUTER OPERATION CAUSES GEAR SHIFT WHEN THE CONDITIONS FOR OVERDRIVE ARE MET.
* O/D MAIN SW OFF
WHEN THE OVERDRIVE SW IS TURNED TO OFF, THE CURRENT FLOWING THROUGH THE O/D OFF INDICATOR LIGHT FLOWS
THROUGH THE O/D MAIN SW TO GROUND, CAUSING THE INDICATOR LIGHT TO LIGHT UP. AT THE SAME TIME, A SIGNAL IS INPUT
TO TERMINAL OD2 OF THE COMPUTER AND COMPUTER OPERATION PREVENTS SHIFT INTO OVERDRIVE.

Fantastic project. There was an Argentine version of this car built by IKA called the Torino with styling by Pinin Farina. That car eventually got an overhead-cam inline six that was I think designed by Renault. It was a sporty car for the time. I saw a Torino in Buenos aires and wanted one ever since - with the idea of dropping a 2JZ in it.
