U could help narrow it down by including the specific year and model?
Shoot, sorry about that. It`s a 2000 GS 300. The car was running fine, back around beginning of this year started mis firingand threw a code saying as much. So I did a complete tune up. Including coil packs. It`s been doing fine ll year. Then last month it develops another mis fire.Igniter #1. Pretty much all the engine bay wiring is shot. dried brittle, insulation, wires exposed and touching each other. So I clean and very carefully insulate all the 12 volt coil pack wiers. Car fiers right back up! everything seems to be fine, then after a few minutes starts to mis fifer again and dies.. Tries to restart but never really does. So now it won~t even try to fire. D.O.A. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated/
Your going to need to narrow it down a little bit, for anyone to pinpoint the problem without the vehicle. Start by ruling out each of the 4 key ingredients as best u can and then we can help pin point the specific problem. U need to make sure it’s got gas/spark/intake/exhaust. Pick up a little spark tester from a friend or u can purchase them from Autozone for minimal cost and they come in Handy, then verify fuel, or on your car try spraying a little starting fluid into the intake once u know the spark is good, if it starts sputtering or even running briefly then it’s likely a fuel issue. Let us know if you have any more questions or what u find out.
Mine had the same issue with the coil wiring, my wiring was so brittle I just cut it out and ran new wires. All of my coils tested good when doing primary and secondary resistance checks, but in the end I did indeed have a bad coil that was causing my misfire. If it wont start at all, I would look at cam and crank sensors.
Got thecar to run on starting fluid, so it`s a fuel delivery problem, but the fuel pump passed a bench test. Where are/is any fuses or relays for that circuit?
Primary relay is located next to the battery for that circuit, I think. However, have you validate it's getting voltage while cranking? The larger gauge wires - blue/red and blue/white are the power and ground. Attachment 486244
Have someone crank while you're probing these for power. If you're not getting power, you know to look upstream. If you are, then next step would be confirming you're getting adequate pressure. Even if you bench tested the pump, it may be weak.
