Default Hood Release cable & mechanism

Has anyone had issues with the hood (here in the UK we call it the bonnet) cable or latch mechanism?

Mine sticks when the hood is open and I am uncertain whether the friction is in the cable or the latch. Is it a difficult task to replace the cable?

The hood latch itself swivels back and forth. If you haven't already, lubricate the latch itself and work it back and forth. Now note when it's pushed closer to the release switch if the cable gets slack.

If the cable is slack it's likely friction in the cable housing. You can spray a lube like WD40 or Liquid Wrench (not knowing brands you have available in the UK) using a straw then work the cable using the release switch. If the friction is way down deep in the housing it might require removing it and holding it vertical to get the lube end to end insidethe housing.

My "guess" is the latch itself has developed a fritcion as it is exposed to the elements a lot more than the cable.
