Washer bottle replacement
Anyone have a good how to video for removing and replacing the windshield washer fluid bottle? My son's has cracks all over it and won't hold fluid. Tried sealing up the cracks I could see after removing the fender liner and front bumper cover but can't get to all of them without removing the bottle entirely. Thanks!
If you've gone as far as removing the entire front clip and fender liner, there should be no reason why you would't see the few 10mm bolts holding it to the frame. Pretty simple. I don't think you'd find a write up on it because it's that straight forward once you have the front clip off.
Just did this myself as I was installing a crash bar which required removal of the reservoir. I recommend jacking up the car and putting it on stands and removing the wheel. Otherwise, as a shortcut I put the car on ramps and use the jack to take weight off the suspension for more clearance (my car is lowered an inch or two). Have a 10mm socket along with extensions, a couple of small flat head screwdrivers (removing clips) as well as your allen key set handy.
1- Remove the many 10mm head bolts that retain the belly tray / splashguard.
2 - Remove the 4 screws that hold the strip along the edge of the radius of the wheel well
3 - Remove the 4 10mm head screws inside the wheel well that attach the inner fender liner to the body.
4 - Remove the 4 (I think) plastic clips that fasten the inner fender liner to the body.
5 - Remove another 2-3 screws that hold the front (forward of tire) of the liner to the chassis mounting points and bottom of bumper.
You may be able to flex the liner out of your way at this point - but if not, follow the next steps to completely remove the liner out of your way, as it's still attached at the rear
6- Remove the 2 allen head screws that are rear of the tire where the fender liner connects up to the rear of the fender well - connecting it to the body molding in front of the driver door. Note to re-insert this part of the liner, gently pry on the top of the body panel and the top will pop out, hopefully without breaking the plastic clips.
7 - Remove the (I think) screw that is attaching the bottom of the liner to the bottom of the car under and a bit further back from #6 above (access from under car).
At this point the entire fender liner should be loose and you can wiggle it out. I think you can probably get the reservoir out at this point. However, if you cannot, bumper removal isn't too far away and you'd have to have taken these steps to get it out anyway. There are 2 rear-ward facing studs that are molded into the bumper that pass horizontally into the body work (fender) from which you need to remove 2 hex nuts. They're hard to see, so accessing from behind through the fender well while looking up from the bottom is helpful the first time or two you do it. After you free these two studs, then there's a couple of additional bolts up along the top of the bumper. You'll need to disconnect the blinker and fog lamp connectors if you're pulling it.
The windshield washer reservoir will have 3 total fasteners. 2 are bolts and one is a nut that fits over a stud coming off the body. There are 2 electrical connectors attached. You'll also need to disconnect the fluid line itself. There's a connector that's pretty easy to access and pull apart.
