I've noticed what I can only describe as a popping sound while turning and breaking simultaneously on my 98 GS400. I'm sure this is something suspension related. Does anyone have any input on what it might be? Going to take it in this week, but just curious if this is something that's common on the 400. My 02 GS430 never did this.

 

My guess is ball joints...it's a common weak point on the 2GS. Get it checked out and let us know what they find.

 

Check the lower balljoint, caster arms and possibly sticking brake caliper

 

If your ballpoints are popping, then you’re on borrowed time. They usually pop once the grease is gone.

 

Thanks everyone! I will update once I take it in. I'm looking for a new mechanic, as mine upped their hourly labor rate to the point where there is minimal savings over the Lexus dealer and they are actually more expensive than our local Toyota dealer. Crazy in my mind!
