First, have the actual problem diagnosed. Then get a quote from a local shop. Pricing will vary a lot from region to region.

How mechanically inclined are you? If it is the transmission front pump and you are able to do the job, I'd suggest sourcing a used transmission. I see them for $200-$400 commonly in my local Craigslist and Offer-up etc.Paying for the transmission to be pulled, then actual work done to the trans makes for high cost. Probably equal to the value of the vehicle or more. And the rest of you transmission is probably questionable at this point. How many miles? Fluid color/condition/smell/level? You can also save money by providing a replacement trans for you choice shop to install. However you want to know the trans is good. LKQ is a nationwide used car parts source. They would sell a verified good one. Then you skip the shops markup price. See if there is one near you and give them a call. They deliver when it comes to engines and transmissions, rear ends, etc.

I second that. my personal opinion about our a650e transmissions is that they are built very well. I think there is a very low failure rate. perhaps yours failed (if thats the case) due to trans fluid overheating from a restricted trans cooler in the radiator. it would be alot cheaper to just source a lower mileage used trans and stick it in there. just make sure to flush all the trans fluid prior to replacing it. and you need to make damn sure your trans cooler in the radiator is not restricted. like from a cheap radiator replacement previously. and of course, this is all assuming the trans pump is the source of your noise.

Thanks I appreciate it! I’m 100% convinced it’s the pump for the tranny. I only hear the whining sound when the car is in drive so I’m assuming it’s that but I will get it diagnosed!
