Default Brake Light on Dash Comes on Intermittently:

Hi guys, the dash brake light has been coming on intermittently on my 2001 GS430. Seems to occur more often when it’s cold out in the mornings.

I checked the fluid today and it is right at the max level.

What else can trigger this light? Can anyone help me solve this? Thank you.

This happens randomly on my '98 GS4... turned out to be the parking brake handle. Whenever the brake light stays on, I have to pull the parking brake and let it spring back in, then the light will go out. Been meaning to adjust the spring, just never get around to it.

When you pump the brakes, the brake fluid level moves in the master cylinder. On these brake units I have seen the brake fluid level move a bit from full to close to low and vice versa. Next time you think your brake light is going to come on, have the hood open and check the fluid level. It also helps to have someone else in the Lexus pumping the brakes multiple times all the way to the floor while you inspect the brake fluid level as it moves. I would recommend pulling codes if you have any stored in the ABS system.
