Default Transmission question

Kinda new to the gs game. Bought a 2000 gs 300 about a month or so ago and the trans is in bad shape. Jerks in reverse, hard shift from 2nd to 3rd, and the recent problem of it buzzing around the 1500-2000 rpm range which I would assume would be the trans. When I did the usual maintenance after I bought it I found the trans fluid was grossly overfilled. Did a drain and fill to fix that problem but it seems it's a tad late and the damage has been done. I planned on the whole gte swap when I had the funds to source parts but I dunno if the trans will make it that long. My question is could you just buy any a650e and have it work no problem? Like say I got an sc300 a650e for example. If I did get it from another model would there be anything i need to be aware of? The a650e seems to be decently cheap since I assume people ditch them for manual swaps and kinda looking for a budget fix when it does decide to grenade

Just a thought but when I did my transmission drain and fill the new and old fluid didn’t mix well. Had bad shifts when cold so I had to do a few drain and refills to get it right. Are you sure the right fluid was used?

I think some have different pans and how the dipstick tube leads up. But all in all, should be the same. Might have to transfer over a thing or two. You have your old one to take the bell housing, pan, mount, etc from if needed. Other cars will have different torque converters with different stall speeds too, so be aware of that.

I would assume you could just reuse the GS torque converter though right? never done a trans job but I bought the car to build over time and learn the JZ platform

You could, but the torque converter is so important, I'd even go as far to say that you should replace it with new even with a used transmission. I would definitely not want to use a converter from a failing trans in another one. They hold a large amount of the fluid and are very hard to drain. And it will be full of the debris from the bad trans weather its metal particles or burnt clutch material depending on how it's failing.
