I have a 2001 GS300 and when I do a cold start in my car, the engine makes a couple of “thumps” in the interior like it’s hesitating and after like 3 seconds, it goes back to normal. It always does this at every cold start. Can anyone tell me whats going on?

 

Are you able to post a video or sound clip? There are so many possible noises from an engine. This could be anything from knocking, a bad starter, even engine mounts if bad enough. There's a lot happening when the engine is first fired up. Have you checked your oil level yet? How long has this been gong on?

 

I will have a video clip soon, my oil level is fine. It’s been going like this for a couple of weeks or more. It’s not a noise but it makes a couple of slight “thumps” in the interior at cold start. My engine runs fine.
