Default GS400 pricing

Never had a Lexus (had Toyota before) but interested in this one: https://philadelphia.craigslist.org/...802617303.html

Seems very clean and low milage. I been looking at other GS400 that are cheaper, but all have over 150k miles. Seller seems very firm on the price saying he had people from other states call and considering coming to see it. Any input regarding if this car is worth the full asking price?

Thank you.

Yes, I would say it is worth $4,500 if not a little more. You didn't mention maintenance records but be sure the TB/WP was changed. The key is with older cars a lot of times is the interior doesn't hold up as well. Seems this one is in excellent condition. I would have a PPI done at your local Lexus dealer and if everything checks out I would buy it.

Well, the thing is the guy selling it is a small 'dealer' who buys cars at auction, so unfortunately there's no records that comes with it. The previous title belonged to someone in NJ and was titled at 9k miles in 2001, so not counting the dealer it's most likely a 2 owner car. There's a sticker on the engine cover that says timing belt changed at 33k miles in May 2010, so I assume neither the TB/WP has been changed since. There are no visible leaks and engine bay is pretty clean and underside is as good as can be expected for the NE car of this age (bolts in engine bay, exhaust, all looks rusty, but unless you don't drive the car in the winter, that's going to happen with the amount of salt used around here).

If you have the VIN you can create an account at Lexusdrivers.com and add it as one of your vehicles. That will give you the service history done from the dealer. I might also run a CarFax.

You may need the TB/WP changed soon, but it's not a deal breaker...just plan on spending $800 or so to have it done. It's a little more at the dealer. Finding a 2GS in good condition is getting harder and harder to find, so I think it's definitely worth a shot. Some wear is to be expected after 20 years; I'm in NC and have never driven my car in the snow and there's still a little wear and tear underneath.

Thank you so much! Based on the info from drivers.lexus.com, it looks like it's been to a Lexus dealer about twice a year for maintenance/service (at least once a year, some times 2 or 3) since new up until 99k in May of 2018. It also confirmed both TB/WP done in 2010 at 32.5k miles. Miles also increased pretty steadily at about 5k miles per year, so it looks really good from that standpoint as well. Not sure why it ended up at auction, but regardless, I think I'll end up getting it.

That is a awesome deal, the interior looks great.

11 years ago I paid $8,000. 98 GS400 with 150k miles, back then that was a great deal.
Now it has 319k miles and drives just as great but it is worn out.

You will love that car...

Wow, dealer serviced is definitely a plus. I'm biased having owned mine for close to 20 years but I think you're making a good decision. I remember when I thought 200,000 miles was a lot and I passed that a couple years ago.

Like FrankT said take care of them and these cars just run and run.

Finally a thread worth responding to. Pull the trigger now. You won't find a better deal anywhere. If he's selling for $4.5k, I'm sure he paid $2k which is surreal.
