Default Why would you buy a GS?

Post a pro and con for your gs! This will help potential buyers to have a "feel" of what to expect from a Grand Sedan.

Pro:
Rear Body Styling looks good!

Con:
Front is too subtle compared to Benz and BMW

1st Gen

Pros
-Very good luxurious car with a distinguished look and not many people have it. Projective headlights and nice 2jz engine.

Cons
- The price has gone down with the 1st Gens, so they are very affordable. I guess its both a pro and a con.

2nd Gen

Pros
- A very nice new look when compared to the 1st gen and a more luxurious look. A lower less boxy look with a vvti engine.

Cons
- I see way too many of these everyday. About 7 on a daily basis. hehehehee

Overall both are very good cars and I am glad I own a GS.

Pros (2nd Gen)

1) IMO best looking 4 door sedan to PIMP out.
2) A stand alone design which is very unique
3) Lexus reliability = 9th consecutive year in a row as top dog
4) Having bmw/mb/Audi drivers SNAP THEIR NECKS looking = PRICELESS
5) Having women SNAP THEIR NECKS looking = PRICELESS

Cons (2nd Gen)

1) Create HATERS everywhere
2) Cautious of where you park
3) Some friends become HATERS
4) Getting carjacked
5) All my money going to MODS.

Pros-The king of the hill Japanese Sports sedan. So good, other car makers copy the interior and exterior.
-I met ya'll and have gone on some great drives (Deal's Gap, Smokey Mountains etc), and Meets (NOPI, ANdrettis, Hennessy Lexus of Gwinnett etc)
Cons-I am not a big fan of the seat and there are too many mods available for this car=spend major$$$.

I concur!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! especially the cons.... specially number 3! here on Guam, the GS is also target to cops. it's true. driving my benz c280 got me 1 ticket for running a stoplight (it was yellow).... I got out with a warning for doing 70 in a 35 (the highest posted speed limit on Guam... ridiculous. even the cops go 55 all the time). I was following the flow of traffic.

but with the lex, I got arrested for running 25mph over (reckless driving). got several tickets for going between 5-10 mph over. all when following the flow of traffic. WHY WAS I SINGLED OUT???????

Yes for some apparent reason, lexus drivers gets hated on more than any other car from what I have seen. BabyGS3, I know all too well how some cops are just plain HATERS. I've gotten sooooooooooooooooo many tickets for tinted windows by the same cop I should be in Guiness by now. Even though 75% of the tickets were dropped in court, but I had to waste my time going there.

This is what I tell HATERS when they start talking trash. " So, what do YOU drive?" . All of a sudden, no words come out of their mouths. That puts a BIG ==><== on my face.

1st Gen

Pro's
1. Timeless design, beautiful from every angle (with 20s and a drop of course)
2. Most legroom of any car I've driven (I'm 6'4")
3. Reliability (freak tranny thing notwithstanding)
Cons:
1. If it were any slower on the takeoff, a kid on roller blades would take me.
2. Worlds biggest car/smallest trunk winner
3. Damn swimming pool spare tire well.
4. Almost nonexistant(sp) aftermarket support

2nd Gen
Pros
1. Nice design, sportier than 1st Gen (5series proportions, overhangs, etc)
2. Newer creature comforts auto up/down windows, memory seats, changer in glovebox
3. Faster (300 or 400 pick one)
4. bigger trunk
5. Excellent used car value (98 GS300) based on feature content Prestige, etc
Cons
1. Doesnt have the BIG BODY luxury look
2. Commonality (just a reason to mod really)

HEY,HEY I'm a "COP", Detective actually and i'm not a hater....Well Police Officers In NewJersey are well paid, but I cant say the same 4 the rest of the country......My co workers have E55, Cadillac trucks, and the Deville, CL500, 430 Lex coupe, and so on....Not 2b competing with anyone but simply saying that officers in Newjersey can afford the finer things and I wouldn't say that we are haters....

There are many pros so I'll just list my cons...

1) Not enough "technology" in the car. Come on, climate control seats, voice recognition, suction doors/truck, auto down mirrors on reverse, etc., etc. are easy to add.

2) Price for the GS430 is too high compared to the GS300

3) GS300 owners putting on GS400/430 emblems trying to fake the funk

4) Camber adjustment sucks on the GS

5) Car comes WAY too "soft". Rides like a boat when stock.

6) It's been out since 1998 with no decent visual revisions

7) Motor is capable of more power and the 3UZ-FE should have been bumped up to 330+ HP

That's the funniest thing I have every heard. Not to turn this into ANOTHER GS vs. 540, but I assure you the 540 with sport package will smoke a GS from 0-30. From 30 on, I assure you the GS430 will beat the 540. Trust me, I've owned them both - the torque converter on the GS430 just has too low of a stall speed plain and simple. Ask the people who have changed their torque converter about the difference it makes in acceleration.

Now, on to the thread
Pros
Cup holders
Stereo
Rear seat
Dashboard

Cons
Slow off the line
Handles like a boat
Bumps reverberate throughout car body
Stock tires
and everything Manaray said.

oh and if you think Lexus drivers are hated, try driving a BMW.
