Tilt steering only gives single click, telescopic works fine
Followed the DIY for cleaning the tilt motor and even purchased another one on eBay ($31 so pretty cheap). Still, all I get is a single 'click' when using the joystick when trying to move the wheel up or down. Telescopic works fine. Anyone have any other ideas on what to try? The wheel is stuck in a good position for driving so while I don't need to fix it would like to. Thanks!
Though not a photo of my car the motor to the right is the one I took out and cleaned.

Kevin,
Hi. Did you see my post of 10 October? In my case, the telescope has stopped working (also a single click) but the tilt works fine. We have one good car between us!
I have not yet taken it apart but suspect the motor. If you have put in a known good motor this contradicts my theory. As for you, the settled position is comfortable for driving.
I suspect that you may have cleaned the wrong motor - the telescope motor is Part No. 45788-30010.

Hey Mike, I think I remember your post. Yes, I got the motor out (45788-30010) and cleaned it....then replaced it. I think both motors are good so it's something in between the switch and motor. Maybe a connection or relay? Btw, I cleaned the sunroof motor and they look identical inside and now it works great (my sunroof was slow to open / close). Even when the sunroof motor was dirty though, it still worked but was very sluggish. In the case of the tilt motor all I get is a click no movement whatsoever. Thankfully it's stuck in a good position!
Dealer wants $500-600 to replace but I'm not sure I want to spend that on the tilt function alone when it's already in a good spot. It's more of a "nice to have".

Mike you got me thinking, we both have the same problem except opposites. The TILT & TELESCOPIC STEERING CONTROL (#89227-30011) could also be an issue? See below.
It doesn't look that bad to replace. I'll try and find one on eBay and keep you posted.

Got it working!! It appears to be the connection on the bottom of the tilt / telescopic steering control (or the control itself). Try this: disconnect the white plug from the motor control unit. You can leave the grey one. If you try the joystick you will hear just a single click in either direction. I plugged it back in, wiggled it back and forth a little and it started working. The only caveat is it may be a connection INSIDE the motor control unit that I jarred back in place. But, I will have to monitor it for a few days and see if it stops again. At any rate, it's working for now. See photo below.

Kevin,
Now that is interesting. I'll take the covers off of mine and have a play. If your assumption is right, it would be a poor joint between the plug and socket which a little switch cleaner would fix.

Yep, that connection seems to be the issue. Hence the single 'click'. There are 8 or so bolts and 2 panels to remove to get to it. You will have to pull up and out on where the key goes, that will reveal a hidden bolt. Let me know how it goes.
