Steering Wheel Tilt Motor Inoperative
'96 LS400 steering wheel tilt motor is inop and mechanic says it needs to be replaced. The assy which includes the tilt motor is quoted at $690 plus tax...no mention of rebuilding/repairing the motor. This makes the replacement cost close to $1100. Are motors available without the assy? I love the car and would like to keep it in good condition! Any suggestions?

what year? the motors can start binding after so much use. I think they can be taken out and cleaned tho. my telescope motor keeps quitting; as soon as I have some time, I'm going to take it out and see if I can free it up. Also, I guess on the 95s, the tilt wiring harness was just a little too short, which could potentially cause a bad connection.

Just wondering how it turned out. My 98 does the same thing.

shimming is recommended to center new gear with worm drive.
Use correct Toyota yellow "body grease" .
Expensive grease but is compatible with plastic...
Be sure to use

ziptie does the trick for the older design. The motor is usually completely fine, the plastic teeth being stripped seems to usually be the problem
