Default Rear light failure indicator fix

I have a 1999 Lexus GS300 and recently decided to take out the bulbs to the trunk lights. As many of you know this causes a warning light to come on showing that the lights have failed. I replaced them with LED bulbs but the light stayed on. If you’ve had this issue there is a very simple fix. You have to take out the module from the drivers side of your trunk by removing a 10 mm nut and unplugging the harness, then open the module and remove the board. The take a pair of snips and clip the end of the resistor shown below and pry it away so it doesn’t contact anything else and reassemble the module. There are no unwanted affects from doing this and it’s easy to repair if you ever wanted to.

I would think that the trunk is a lot more accessible than behind the dash.

Another option would have been to use some Electrical Load Resistors on the new LED bulb to trick the warning light into not showing up to begin with, but this is great - how often do you find a problem with four different solutions?

I know that this is an older thread, but will it really work to just cut the purple wire (I'm assuming its the wire at the module harness)? That sounds a bit easier than taking the module apart to snip the resistor. Just changed out all my bulbs with led, the light out indicator is coming on due to the tail/brake lights.

I have the same issue with my 01 GS after putting in LED reverse lights and on my 04 GS after swapping to LED taillights. This would be an easy fix if that’s case.
