$28,900 best price - basically below both edmunds tmv and kbb private party values (close to trade-in value?) - whaddaya think?

I agree with Ozeki. Is it certified, since that adds about 2-3k. I purchased my 1998 about 2 years ago for 27K with basically the same features. So I would say after looking at edmunds etc and because it is at a lexus dealer it is a fair price. It looks like the average selling price across the country is about that price (28K). Just check to make sure it has the lexus vin stickers on all body panels and do a good inspection.

Good luck

It is not a very good deal, there is a CL member who was selling his 2001 GS430with NAV, Mark Levingston, 22K miles for only $31k. There were no takers, so he had to sell it to a dealer.

If it is sold by LEXUS dealer, then price is OK. CPO lexus is up to $8k more expensive. Dealers always charge more than you can buy it from a private party.

it is not lexus certified as this is a cadillac dealer (owner trader it in on a new escalade for his wife, gs4 was her car) - it does still have original mfr warranty until 3-31-04 or 50k miles (currently has 33,300 miles)

if this price is high, why does kbb show $28,700 as "trade-in value" for 200 gs 4 in excellent condition(which this car is I would say) or $27,150 for "good condition "trade-in" value - "private sale" values on kbb show $30,115 (good) $31,780 (excellent) - - - edmunds tmv trade-in shows $27,492(clean) to $28500(outstanding) and private sale values of $30,036 (clean) to $31,495 (outstanding)

i highly respect and value those on this forum with much more gs knowledge than myself, so please help me understand the kbb, edmunds $ vs what you all think and know to be the case in reality

thanks!! - jeff

Black Book shows $27,975 as trade-in price, close to trade-in like you said. If it is CPO and Carfax, Autocheck reports are clean, then it is a good deal from a Lexus dealer. Lexus dealers here want the following prices for CPO 2000 GS400: $33,900 45K miles, $39,999 for 32K miles, and $49,999 for 12K miles

thx gs40098 -

cadillac dlr who has this 00gs400 asking $30,000; says $28900 is his best price
he ran and copied the carfax for me - all looks fine - car was purch by previous owner(whom i called and spoke with) in july 2001with 7400 miles as cpo'd lexus from the local lexus dlr who also sold the car to the orig 1st owner (who only kept it 1 yr and traded in after 7400 miles) - so this car was cpo'd but as you know the cpo will not transfer to me - it does however have remaining factory warranty until march 31 04 - all books and service are 'traceable' thru the local lexus dlr who orig sold to both the first owner on 3-31-00, and as a cpo to the 2nd owner in july 01 - but since this car is being sold by a local caddilac dlr, it obviously can't be lexus cpo'd (though it would be if a lexus dlr had the car for sale and they'd prob ask around $34-35K as you said
so at $28,900, it is within about $750-$1k of kbb or black book quoted trade-in value

Cars are like company's stocks and bonds. There is no fixed price, and the real price is set by how much people are willing to pay. When economy was up, people were paying more than KBB and Edmunds prices. In todays economy, expensive cars are sold way below their list prices.

If you have a car to trade-in, you should take it to a dealer and get a quote. A guy in another thread has 2001 GS430. A trade-in price is $35K, but dealer pays only $31K. Why should you pay a full retail price if they don't pay fair trade-in price?

If it was a CPO LEXUS, it still would be a good deal.

Which dealer is it? I'm looking for a black GS, and I might check it out.

Thanks.

Thx Mikhailw -
I'll ck out the ann arbor 01 gs430 (prob already sold), but don't know if I could trust myself to do such a "long distance" $30k transaction - i'm in nash tn and figure i can look approx 300 mi away, but not sure about 600 mi - also, the "burnished gold" color is not among my top 3-4 color choices, but i'll ck it out anyway -
since you seem to have a keen sense for the appropriate value of pre-owned gs4's, what do you feel the 2000 gs400 I previously described at the top of this thread should be worth and what would you offer the cadillac dealer who has it? (3000 gs4 loaded, nak yes, but no nav, chromes, spoiler, htd seats, hid's. 33400 miles, factory warranty until 3-31-04)
look forward to your response and thx for your thoughts in advance

jeff

I think this is a dead-on price for a non certified Lexus. Otherwise the Lexus dealer would ask $33K for this car. I was once a buyer like you about a month ago. A local Lexus has a white 2000 GS400 Platnum mint condition 32K miles list price $34900. I offered $32K but the sale person insisted on $33K. So I bought from an Infinity dealer 250 miles away for $28500 non-certified 2000 GS400 Platnum 29K miles but practically the same model and year.

Thumbs up Thx Sung

Any special std features, etc on a 'platinum edition' gs4 that make it more desirable?
otherwise $28,500 sounds about right

Considering that this year there will be a new generation of LS4?? released(not confirmed, but we are at the end of 3rd year cycle), I recommend waiting till August or September. BBK and EDMUND's prices will go down by ~$6K when new model is available. Check out price difference between 97 and 98, and also between 2000 and 2001. There will be only a few buyers for a car that is 2 generation old for more than $25K.

Regards
