Knock sensor woes
I finally got around to doing my starter yesterday. It was not as bad as everyone said. Only took me about 3 hours of work. Actual start to finish was just shy of 5 hours but that includes tons of water breaks (it was HOT) and running to the parts house a few times. One problem though. I replaced my knock sensors with new ones (Toyota part #89615-12040 but purchased from amazon... yes I know.......). After driving it for a few miles the check engine light cuts on with 3 codes, 2 active and one pending fault. Both knock sensor codes and then a pending knock sensor code. So I cleared them using my torque app and it ran fine again.....for another couple miles when the CEL came back on. This time with just a p0330 active and another p0330 pending. I cleared them and will drive it to work in the morning to see what happens but when it throws these codes it loses power. Clearing the code makes it run properly again. At least I only work about 5 miles away so no permanent damage should occur.
Now my question: Where can I get known good knock sensors without spending $150+ on each one? I still have my OEM ones I can put back in but one has a damaged plug on the sensor from where the starter hit it when I was reinstalling it. So at minimum I will need 1 good one. The same style I put in my wifes sienna work fine on hers. Think I just got a bad pair?

Bite the bullet and get 2 new OEM knock sensors. You’ll be glad you did. You can get them from your local Lexus dealer. I paid $1,000 to have the dealer do mine. My Indy was busy at the time and I wasn’t about to cut corners. Haven’t had an issue since.

I hear you on that. However I don't have the $ right now for both new knock sensors. Will be a month or so before I can. I thought about putting the original good one back in and just getting one but I don't want to pull the intake but once more if I can help it. So fir now I guess I'm back to daily driving the MR2.

I have a friend that works at a local Toyota stealership. I can see if he wouldn't mind using his employee discount to help a brother out. Should be the same part since a ton of Toyotas use the same sensor.

Rock Auto has the Standard Motor Products listed at $116.79 ea
I've used some of their stuff with no problems. Actually it was the throttle body motor for my GS4.
