Oil Weight
I've got a 2001 Lexus GS300, it has 58k miles on the clock and I use it for delivery, a workhorse (sadly). If I recall the owner's manual recommends a higher weight for anything past the ambient temperature of 38C, I live in arizona, and I move about in stop and go traffic for nearly 8 hours straight where the temperatures get up to nearly 47c. What would be the best oil for this temperature range? 0w-40? 5w-40? 5w-30? 1000w-4000?

I think you're ok sticking with the standard 5w30 weight. I've driven in cold weather (Buffalo, NY) and very hot (Savannah, GA) and everything in between. Coming up on 229,000 miles with no issues whatsoever. These engines are rock solid. The one change I made was to synthetic after 100,000 miles several years ago. Keep in mind the valve cover gaskets are prone to leak due to age so keep an eye on your oil level.

I'm also in AZ and sit in traffic to and from work from time to time and have had no issues running 5W-30 (full synthetic) in my GS. If you want to step up the weight, I wouldn't go any heavier than 10W-40 - I run that in my boosted RZ 4Runner and have had great success with that in the heat, with 5W-30 being spec'd for that engine in stock form.
