Default check engine light on

I have 1999 GS400 with 35K miles. My check engine light went on. Dealer has replaced ECU at no charge as a solution to this problem. Does this sound like a right solution?

Did the ECU replacement fix the problem or is the light still on?

Odd, but yes, the ECU is what controls the light to come on. I had the same problem with the '99 I just bought, they said it was some fuel valve not working? Anyway, the light was off for 2 weeks but it's back on again.

A friend of mine who's a Toyota mechanic told me that 99% of the time, it's the O2 sensor(s) that wear out.

Thanks. This is exactly what happened to me! The engine warning light turned first time last week. Lexus dealer cleared the code.

I'm stuck with the light on too !!! I went to the nearest Toyota dealership, since the Lexus dealer is way far in the city, and they couldn't find the problem. I'm going to the Lexus dealership next week. I'm just glad I'm not the only one.
