Default front suspension help

whats up everyone. if you saw me in the intro thread youll know, im just a lurker without a gs for now. checking several out this week and hopefully have one within a few days. with that being said, i am already starting to get my initial parts list together. hoping to be in a 99, maybe a 00. havnt decided between bcr coils or fortune, but i think either one will be swift spring optioned and 12k f/10k r. intended wheels for the front will be 19x9.5 +22 with 245/35's and im looking at getting the full refresh front end kit from figs as well as a 17mm rca kit. so with that i am still left with the question of should i go ahead and get the spc camber/caster adjustable upper arms to help with having too much negative camber. i dont mind a little but not a huge fan of alot of camber.

so what say you that are in the know on these cars. if i dont NEED to add the arms, and the coils and rca combined with factory adjustments will do me fine than i would prefer that to help my budget a little, still gonna get the refresh kit for just that, refreshing the front.

thanks in advance for your help

Stock rates are 10KG front / 8 KG Rear, you may experience UCA contact with strut tower, (depending on ride height). be prepared.

First off what are you plans with the vehicle? Track? Stance? hellaflush? vip? drag? you should answer that first. How much are you willing to spend? What will your final ride height be? 12/10kg is to soft. The car weights about 3,900lbs- 4000. So figure out what you want to do with the car and we will help you along the way.

I loved my fortune auto coilovers - got them with 14k/12k spring rates and also had 30mm RCA for the front and rears. I was on 19's and never bottomed out, daily driven 100+ miles a day and it was still very comfortable.

the intention with the car for now is family hauler, vip and drift influence, but not actual "use" per say. more function > form but first and foremost kids and commuting definitely not stanced but low flush. ive seen many people going with 12/10 also quite a few with 14/12, but with the stock offerings being 10/8 definitely didnt figure my choice to be too soft. i was sure as the car evolved into more fun down the line i would eventually go with a heavier spring setup.

I would say it all depends on how low you wanna go. 12/10 would be too soft if you're going to lower the car much. The higher the spring rate the less travel you get out of the suspension. Therefore if you drop it a bunch with a lower spring rate the suspension will travel and you're going to experience upper control arm contact (as was before mentioned) or you will rub / scrape. If you're looking for something just like a family hauler and wanna drop it a bit I would consider 14/12 or even 16/14, that shouldn't bee too crazy and feel to rough. It will also allow you to lower the car and not have too much compression travel. I'm currently running 20k/18k on my GS that I drift even that does not feel too crazy.

20/18 sounds like a drift car for sure. wouldnt imagine it to not feel too crazy though. lol. well ****, i was really quick to order all my stuff after buying the car and before reading into this again and ended up getting the 12/10 combo. does anyone know if the springs are interchangeable front to rear? if so i might just go ahead and order up some 14k and do a 14/12 instead for daily status??.... i was sure that if and when it got to the point of more drift/play car status i was definitely gonna be up to the 16 plus range. playing the game i guess. hahaha.

thanks for all the input so far.

What company coils did you buy? I'm assuming due to your earlier comments it was BC? If so I know they valve the shock to the spring rate that you order, that being said going 2kg higher probably wont affect anything. I would just get a set of 14kg springs for the fronts and swapping the front springs to the back. I don't think the replacement springs are too much i think they were like 50 for the set the last time I priced em out for a customer. A 14k/12k setup should be plenty fine so long as you're not going for "slammed on its nuts"

akuma yes i did get the bc coils with swift springs. the spring diameters are the same but the length is different from front to rear by about 1.5" if i remember from quick look, with the rears being the longer of them. The swift springs as a replacement are 200$ a pair. definitely not going vip slammed, just a slight tire tuck

The springs should be the same size from front to rear. Are you sure you didn't get swift fronts and regular rears? I'm like 99% sure that my springs were the same size front and rear. If not its no big deal cus all that's really going to affect is bottom perch location.

But yeah a 14k/12k setup should be just fine for tire tuck, you might rub a little bit but then you can just adjust the dampening / ride height / wheel offset to fix it
