Default I need some help

I know a lot of us are super GS fanatics. I am just looking for opinions. I was quoted 1300 for a shop to do control arms and the rods. The car I bought almost 6 years ago for 4000. It now has some rust on passenger door and front and rear fender on driver side. I love the car but with 214k miles on it idk how much I can expect out of her and justify spending another 1000 in her. Even if I buy the parts somewhere cheap online (which idk where) I would have to pay someone to do the work I can't. I feel like selling it for whatever I can get on it and getting a new sonata o elantra for my wife and taking her LS430. Just releasing some stress. Feel free to give your opinion or advice.

$1300? **** that!!! i wish I were closer! I replaced my whole front suspension for like $300 iirc with all Moog parts (do a search on "moog", you'll see my write up). I'd charge you like $100 bucks to install them. All that work, IMO, is VERY simple!!! I do it like every 2 years (because I'm on air suspension and I want to keep everything in good condition). $1300 seem's pretty steep!!! Buy the parts yourself online and find someone to install them for cheap! The parts shouldnt cost you much. The labor is like an hour and a half to 2 hours :"by-the-book" (I could do them in less) and then theres the cost of alignment.

MY opinion?

find another shop.

That seems crazy expensive, maybe you have some friends that would be able to install it for you and you could pay them alot less or in beer! Changing control arms and tie rods on something that is very worn out can make a huge difference though. Its always going to be cheaper to replace the parts rather than "buying a new car" just because you don't want to do it. You could probably even find a mobile mechanic on craigslist who could do it cheap, just look up reviews for people who advertise.

Here you go...as Mr Jokster said you can get the PAIR on eBay for the cost of one of the OEMs...just find a reputable indy to throw them on and you're done.

Btw, I've also done the motor/transmission mounts and she feels like a new car. Almost to 230k and she just keeps going. Keep that car for as long as you can!

Well, after seeing his estimate, it makes sense. Theres only about $300 in labor (which is about right). Its the PARTS that are bringing the price up 'cause they're using all OEM parts.

OP: I say, purchase your own parts and go back to the same shop, their estimate for labor is at or around average cost.
