Bad Pioneer Amp?
Recently picked up a 2000 GS300 cheap at auction and have been getting it back up to its fighting weight. One of the issues I'm dealing with has been a possibly bad amp. When I first got it, the screen in the headunit was unsecured and flopping around within the headunit. Hooked it up and secured it with some screws and the headunit powered up and functioned just fine, but I was not getting any sound. I decided to take the amp out and clean it up. I got it to work and verified that the cassette, CD changer and radio all worked, but when I would turn the radio up about past 1/3 of the way, the audio started cutting out oddly and it eventually died. I fiddled with it some more and got it to work again, but it died as suddenly as it started working again.
What I noticed is that all the speakers are working just fine. The only sound I can get out of the system is the "beep" that happens when you seek through the stations. Am I dealing with an intermittent amp or could the headunit be bad?

Seem like a short in the volume control ****, mine did the same thing so I replaced it with an after market double Din Pioneer head unit. I was quoted $120.00 to repair the oem unit, wasn't it worth it so I replace it.
