Question What is the GS' chassis derived from?

I had somebody a few weeks ago trying to say the GS3/4's chassis is derived from the Toyota Camry. I know that's not true - the ES300, yes... but not the GS. But then I started wondering, what is it derived from?

Are there any Toyota vehicles (other than the obvious Aristro) that it shares its platform with? What about the LS400? I know the technically 'chassis' involves the suspension too, and I'm pretty sure the GS has a unique suspension, but I'm referring moreso to the frame and underpinnings.

We had this discussion (I think it was in the Lobby) a few weeks ago, and it was determined that the GS has its own platform, not shared with any others. The IS is a shortened GS frame though.

WRONG.

the GS is derived from the SC platform. it has the same frame as the SC, well at least the last generation SC.

actually the GS comes from the JZ family platform. JZA, JZS, JZX, etc. are all modified JZ platforms. Previous generation SCs are UZs.

I think the GS / Aristo is the replacement for the Cressida. I belive the last year for the Cressida was 1992 and the first for the Aristo/ GS was 1993.

I think its a new platform when it was introduced back in 1998. Since then, the Toyota Avalon uses the same platform.

Nope, the Avalon uses the same platform as the Camry / ES300, but stretched. The Avalon - like the ES and Camry - is FWD so there is no way it's the same as the GS. Here are some details on the Avalon from Edmunds showing it shares the same V6 and FWD as the Camry --> link

So, if the ES/RX is the base platform for the Camry, and share the same body, does that mean the GS shares the IS and SUPRA chasis structure? I figure, since the engines are the same on the ES & Camry, and the GS and Supra,....

The SC shares the Supra chassis structure, not the GS and IS. I've read that the IS300 is based on the GS chassis, as mentioned above. I suspect the GS was an all new platform.

The key difference in my earlier post is FWD and less so the engine. The I6 engine has been used in several varieties of Toyota / Lexus cars including the Supra, the SC, IS, & GS (probably forgetting a couple).

Camry is the basis for the:
ES 300
RX 300
Highlander
Avalon

Car makers don't mix FWD with RWD platforms.

Well up until now they haven't.

Nissan's FMV platform that was first used on the Nissan Altima (FWD) is now used on the G35 (RWD), Murano (FWD or AWD with CVT), FX35 and FX45 (RWD or AWD), and 2004 Maxima (FWD).

correct me if i'm wrong i thought G35 inherits the Z platform so do the FX series. the G35 is a variant of the Z and the murano uses the Altima platform.
