Question Question

Hi Everyone!

While I haven't posted here before I frequently browse the posts and learn more about my car. . Last year I traded in my Caddy and have been thrilled with my GS300!

Now my slight problem.. I had a pen sitting in front of my ashtray. While I ran into a store the other day my husband apparently opened the ashtray to get to the lighter. The cap of the pen somehow slipped behind the ashtray?? It won't properly close now. I can't seem to get the ashtray to pull out?? Is there a technique? Any suggestions?? (other than keeping my husband out of my car!)

Thank you all!

hmmmm, my ashtray pulls right out, try pulling it out with it opened, don't do it too hard though, if you feel it about to break i'd suggest not doing it and have an audio shop open it for you and remove the cap.

While a pen cap stuck behind the ashtray sounds like a bummer to me, the thought of someone lighting up a cigarette in the car makes me cringe...

I'm not sure what button or lever you need to push, but ashtrays are designed to be removed (for emptying, etc.), so there has to be a way to extract it. Keep trying, you'll find it.

Ashtray assembly does just pull out. It's held in with clips on either side. If you open it and gently pull one side out and then the other, it should come out pretty easily. Ironically, when I recently removed my ashtray (so I could clean around the gear lever area), I found a pencil behind it. What is it with writing implements and ashtray's?

Good luck, and please don't blame me if you break it.

Tell your husband to quit smoking-at least when he's in the Lexus!

Thank you all for your replies!

James, your suggested side to side techinque worked like a charm! The culprit pen cap was right there!

Never fear.. my husband knows better then to smoke in my car (or in the house either) !!

I had a feeling I could count on this forum for the answer!
