Oh and LMAO to "he may have had the wrong one" (as in the D2R and D2S) THE OEM NON HID HOUSINGS ONLY USE 9006 BULBS!!! YOU CANT USE D2R or D2S IN THEM!!!

And you can NOT use a D2R in a D2S or visa versa, they will NOT install; the punched out tabs are different between the 2 and impossible to fit.

You can definitely notch one to put in the other. Not that I would recommend it, just get the right bulbs. HID bulbs are super cheap if you're just trying stuff out, so there's never an excuse to use the wrong bulb.

Not recommended is correct and NOT ADVISED as D2R is designed for REFLECTOR TYPE HEADLIGHTS ONLY.
D2C is the universal bulb that may be used in both housings.

Thanks for repeating what I said. A D2C is a D2S with notches to fit either socket. A D2R has a shield on it, a D2S does not. Take a guess what a D2C has..

Contradictory advice is not good advice. Joker has provided the better information. Its counter productive to try and rebuttal someone's information with a contradictory post of your own.
Why would you tell someone to notch a D2S bulb (or vice versa) to fit into a D2R headlight?

Like I said. Cry.

I never said anything about it being legal. Way you get your panties in a bunch and put words in my mouth.

Also, did you miss the part where the OP had an OEM HID HOUSING??!!?! Then he bought AFTERMARKET HID bulbs. You know, the generic ones that will fit in both sockets? You know, the ones that I have and are in the wrong socket and have less than perfect output like he said his did?

Seems like you should take your own advice.

I could give a **** what is legal and illegal. I care what is ACTUALLY happening. I looked at the output on my Camry(s) and GS. The 01 Camry and GS are fine. The 99 had way too much glare. Are you one of those people who does not ever speed 1 MPH over or jaywalk? if I am doing something illegal, and I get pulled over, I get a ticket. Fine. Life will go on. (And I may rethink the risk vs reward.) I see people with HID in halogen housings all the time and most of the time, do not find them distracting. Highbeams, on the other hand, I do. Even then, I pay attention to the ROAD AHEAD.

I am all for informing people what is legal and not, just not on top of a high horse.
Plus, the point of this site is to help people out. If they ask something that is not advised, still answer them but tell them it is not advised. They are not (usually) asking of the legality.

I said not to do that. I said get the correct bulbs. I corrected Jokster because he was wrong. Your suggestion of a D2C is the same as notching a D2S, don't do that in a car that requires D2R.
