Vibrations and Antenna question
Hi all,
I've been struggling with two things for my GS. I really need help from the professionals! The first thing (and most important) is that I have much vibration at the highway around 70/80 MPH. The vibration came since I installed my wheel spacers. The wheel spacers should be good, they are from H&R (Type 5065601, 25MM). I've searched on the forum and more people are using this without any problems, that's the reason why I bought the H&R spacers. What could be the problem here? The mechanic took my wheel of, cleaned the surface and put the spacer on. Could this be a wrong installation? Because the spacers themself should be good because more people use them without problems. Before the spacers I had zero vibrations no matter how fast I was going.
The second struggle is the power antenna. I've got an European GS and they came with a power antenna here. The thing is that when I turn on the music, the antenna goes up, on AM/FM, but on CD and Tape too. I never listen to the radio, only CD. I want that antenna to stay down since I just don't like the look of it. I searched a lot but you can't 'officially' just turn something of so the antenna stays down. I have a navi version so the antenna goes up always...
So I thought...what if I go into the trunk and just unplug the power cable from the antenna. It seems that the radio is sending power to the antenna when I turn it on. When I just unplug/disconnect that cable from the antenna the job should be done I think? But the main question, can this damage anything in the system? Because the antenna won't go up and the power is going thru the cable but the cable itself isn't plugged into anything, and what is the system itself gonna think? Or won't it show any failures? Because I think the whole system doesn't need that antenna at all for playing CD...Might be a noob question but I'm kind of a noob . I just want to be sure before I do it, I don't wanna damage anything. Here's a pic from the cable, see the red circle. I want to unplug that cable.
Can you guys help me, please???!!!
Thanks a lot!
Regards,

Hi GS300freak,
Your said; vibration came since I installed my wheel spacers. You need that to undestand that parts are parts no mare what how made it and can come defected from factory. Also, check any terminal, sway bar bushing or ball join in your from suspension. Because you put more weight on your front suspension, parts that are starting to be damaged or that are damaged are felt faster on your steering wheel.
About your antena. I do not see any way that you disconnect the antenna, thou hurt something in the system of the radio. The only thing that could damage is the fuse before something else. It is my opinion and O.2 sense. Good luck

Thanks guys. The antenna doesn't seem to be a problem at all, I'm gonna do it! The spacers are the main problem.
I contacted my mechanic and told him the story. He said I need to install the spacers again (by a specialist). I am gonna to that this week, but I thought about some more things:
1) I have hubcentric spacers with 60.1mm center bore, bolt pattern 5/144,3. Is it possible there's any play between the spacer and the wheel which causes the vibration at high speeds?
2) Is it important to use the star pattern when installing? Because I can't remember if we used the star pattern when installing...
3) Should I balance the rear wheels with the spacer on?
4) Will aligning the car help? I lowered the car at the same time, can the combination lowered springs + spacers be a problem that can be solved by aligning the car?
If this all doesn't work I need the send the spacers back if possible. I lowered the car so I definitly will need spacers on the rear, without spacers it would be really ugly. Then I will need to search for other spacers.
Thanks again!

I'm no expert but I'll throw my opinion out there:
1. Could be possible, but you could probably tell by looking at them. As long as they go on the hub tight, you shouldn't have an issue.
2. I've always been told to do a star pattern, I haven't actually put on wheels without a star pattern though so I can't tell you if that would actually mess up anything.
3. I've never heard of this, but that doesn't mean you can't balance them with it on there.
4. Anytime you do any suspension work you should always get an alignment. That is most likely the cause.
Also is your spacer on the rear or both the front and rear?
