Default GS300 E-shift button removal?

I'm replacing my steering wheel and I have everything off but I'm wondering do i just pry the plastic trim around the front and backside of the e-shift button or is the a proper way to remove the eshift and the wiring?

That thread is a little vague about exactly how to remove of "take apart" the buttons without doing damage. Can anyone elaborate?
