Recommened Tyre Size For 18"x8 Wheel
First things first, Just joined the forum and would like to say Hi
Sorry to post another Wheel Fitment Question, spent an hour or so going though posts last night but cannot find and answer that applies to me.
Looking a bit of advice on the Ideal size tyre for 18" wheel on a MK2 Gs300. (18"x8jj) Offset 45?
Currently i have 225/40R18 Tyres around, car is standard and not lowered
The issue i have with my current setup is if i rub against a kerb i scrape my alloys and on occasions pinch the tyres which takes a small chunk of them.
If i were to change to 235/40/R18 or 245/40R18 would i avoid scraping my alloys or would this present any other other problem (ie puncturing the tyre ect)?
i'd be grateful for any insight anyone could lend.

235 & 245 is the tread with of the tire. you most likely should change the profile of the tire to 45/R18. Also if you can find tires with Rim Guard A raised rubber ridge acts like a bumper to protect wheels from curb damage.

Just play with this until it gets right. Like this told me I need to go to 245/35/19 for 19" wheel and speedometer is perfect.

Cheer's for the responses, I'm a bit confused.
For example if i was to increase the width of the tread to 235 or 245 and was to rub against the kerb then surely the kerb would make contact with the tyre and thus protect the wheel. If i change the profile (Side wall?) then the wheel would still protrude and still get damaged.
Have i got that right.

235 or 245/40 will work.
The stock 17" size is 235/45 on a 17x8. Reducing the profile when going to 18" accounts for the extra inch.
235 is not a bulgy size, but it is wide enough to provide some protection. Not all tires have the same tread width and total width, despite having the same section width, which is what 235 or 245 represents.
