Default Valve cover gasket getting replaced - What else?

So, I am pretty sure it might just be the valve cover gasket that is causing my oil leak at it has a nice oil leak around the whole top end where the gasket sits. I am going to get this done, but the tech recommended I replace some other parts.
  • -Spark Plugs (was gonna do this anyways)
  • -Spark plug wires
  • -TB gasket

Is there anything else needed? The tech suggested some other parts, but I can't recall other than being related to ignition the coil pack.

Normally I would do this task myself, but I don't have the space to properly work on the car to replace this. So, with that said I'll be having my local dealer handle it as they qouted me $1200.00

be sure to get new coil pack clips as the old ones will be brittle and breaking.

That's a crazy expensive price but i guess that's what the dealer does... as far as your list goes that looks right, except I'm not sure why you would need a TB gasket, i was able to do mine without having to remove my tb, just shifted it out of the way slightly to get the valve cover off (on a 300). Unless the gasket is bad already. How many miles do you have? Is this a 300 or 430?

FYI the first time I had this job done I ordered toyota gaskets from irontoad and plugs/wires from rockauto. The labor cost me $120. parts were less than $100 The second time I did it i got aftermarket gaskets from rockauto and toyota plugs and wires from ebay and did the work myself. I would go with an independent shop and save the money for other maintenance ie timing belt.

Parts list looks good... I did the work myself, had additional costs because of dried up vacuum hoses crumbling and connectors breaking.... been all in all, spent about 2 hours on it and about $200.

When you say you don't have space, do you mean a garage?

I agree with djspawn00, $1200 is pretty pricey...considering that parts alone are definitely less than half that price.

I'd say if you haven't had the timing belt and other major tune ups done yet, maybe wait to do it all at once...

If you decide to want to do it yourself, heres a link...pretty much same steps to getting to the valve cover--minus taking the TB actually off...

That's real expensive, did you shop around at all or just go to the dealership? A independent auto repair joint may be cheaper.

You can watch a few videos over and over on these jobs until you feel comfortable, then do it yourself and save save save.
