Trying to remove my 98 GS4 air bag and got the 2 T30 torx loose, but the air bag seems held by something still. I did a 00 LS bag in the boneyard and was a piece of cake.

Ideas what is holding it? Just pull anyway? Its loose, but hanging on to something still on both sides.

There's a little bracket that the screws sit in (6th picture - the white pieces). Once you've unscrewed both screws, you'll feel that they are spinning freely. You'll have to mess with it a bit and get them to come out more and sit in the bracket (you don't have to actually remove the screws).

I'm glad that you brought this up because I am having issues aligning my new wheel. When I installed it, it was crooked to the right. I removed it and readjusted it to the left by one spline, but now it's crooked to the left. Do I need to get an alignment and get the toe links readjusted?

Talked to my friend at Lexus and he said you have to pull the screws out of the plastic carrier sometimes.

I'll try again tonight.

No you don't need alignment, and probably shouldn't, because the steering wheel center will be changed. The steering wheel sensor would then need to be rezero'd. May or may not set a code for it (If it does, VSC will disable)

I'd get the steering wheel on properly, not sure how to once it is off, but one spline won't go from left to right, wondering if you went 2. its pretty fine Mark it with a sharpie

Where do I mark it exactly? I'm more of a visual learner lol. Thanks in advanced.

You know you are driving it now and it is slightly left, pull the nut and put a dot where it is now, or a line, whatever works best. Remove wheel and install no more than 1 dot or line thickness clockwise one tooth. install nut (not tight unless you want to) and then drive and see. I use my fingers to feel on the steering wheel to column to get a feel for how off (I do my own alignments).

I can't do photos right now, my wheel has yet to come off.... working on it!

So I still couldn't figure out how you would mark it with a sharpie and be able to tell, but I carefully readjusted it one spline clockwise. It's slightly crooked to the right again. However it's not as crooked as before when it was going right.

Guess I'm just stuck with this for now. I'll tackle it again this weekend.

Re aligning it will fix it for sure.

Default Swapping Steering Wheels

I'm thinking of ordering a replacement wood-rim wheel that comes bare - without any of the brackets and stuff that are attached to my wheel behind the air bag. I understand the procedure for removing my wheel, but I'm wondering how much is involved with moving all the brackets and hardware from my wheel to the new wheel. I assume that this has been done by many members.
