Default Accessory Connection

Hi all.

I have a 1998 GS300 and am installing a VHF Ham Radio transceiver which takes around 6 amps when transmitting.

This is too high a current for the cigarette/accessory connectors. Is there an appropriate ignition-switched connection available as I am reluctant to splice directly to the battery?

Well it should have both ignition and battery, so it has to go to the battery anyway. Either way, why are you reluctant to go directly to the battery? I have close to 300a connection hooked up to the battery, not to mention there are plenty of factory circuits with much more than 6a of draw. Splice anything, as long as you use a relay and fuse the wire, you'll be fine. BTW, the cigarette lighter is set for 10a, you can easily use that and as said, use a relay to distribute the power safely and correctly.

Thanks for your quick reply.

I am reluctant to take a cable from the battery through to the passenger compartment if it could be avoided and there is a take-off point more suitable.

The handbook makes mention of the power outlet in the cenre console with a warnng not to draw over 3.5 amps.
