Question Question on side mirror

Hi, guys.
I am Teddy and I live in north Jersey. I just joined the club today and I really like this website.

I just got 2001 GS 300 handed down to me last week from my older sister, since
she has to work oversea for couple of years.

I really love the car and after looking club's website today, I am so excited
about making my own custom GS. I am pretty newbie to this so, any advice
will be greatly appreciated. The car is all stock right now, and I will post a pictures
as the projects progress.

I have one question.

I went to supermarket couple days ago and when I came out, somebody has hit my side mirror
and ran!!!!

Well, everything is in the place and working fine, except the outer shell or cover (whatever you call it).
I asked Lexus dealer and couple of mechanics that I know, if the part is available.
Unfortunately, they all told me Lexus do not just sell that cover and the part comes in one piece.
They said the mirror is about $500 plus mounting and painting. So i'm looking at roughly
$600~$650 here.

I do not want to pay that much of money just because of the cover.
Does anyone know where to get it? I really want to get this thing fixed up ASAP.

Thank you guys and see you around in the club~~~~

Teddy

Default Mirror replacement...

I think the price quote to you is a bit high. The new mirror for the LS400/LS430 installed by a dealer is $439.80 (color match painted already) Since the mirrors are very similar in size in the LS & GS I am assuming that the price should be the same. Or it could be the GS' is cheaper because in the LS, the mirror has auto tilt feature in reverse. I think any price over $500 installed is expensive.Your alternative is: go to the club's market place and post "wanted to buy" or check if someone is changing their stock mirror to the MB style (with signal lights) and buy their stock mirror. Also some people are searching parts at ebay. I hope this might help.
