Smile Gs300 2001

Hi I own a Lexus GS300 2001 model and have noticed a winding/ticking noise coming from what seems to be inside the dash behind the speedo etc. it happens when car is started and in idol and regardless of whether car is cold or hot - and also it happens regardless of whether the fan or air con is on or off - any ideas>???? common fault or?? nothing to worry about?

Welcome to CL as a new poster.

Could be a number of things, but one thing comes to mind right off the bat. Does your car have a power-operated steering column with memory settings? It's possible that when you first start it, especially if someone else has been driving it, the electric motor that automatically returns the column to its tilt/telescope memory-setting is getting worn and may (?) soon need to be replaced.

it happens when car is started and in idol
An engine doesn't "idol"....it "idles".

We also have other forums for questions like this.
