when you say upgrade do you mean the whole system like the screen and buttons or just the hard drive. If you did update the hard drive what would you gain?

I would love to put an 02 or 03 nave unit in my gs I have a 98 as well Is this possible?

Upgrading the harddrive will have up to date MAPS. Lexus does not download new software to harddrive only replacement of hard drive with new software MAPS

so, if you wait till sept 2003, you will get a newer version instead of the 2002? I think they always release the update in the fall.

just make sure your car is off, remove the 2 small phillip screws on the nav computer (in the trunk), take the cover plate off, release the hook holding the hard drive, side it out, put the new HD back in the same order. Put everything back. Turn on your key to ACC or start the car, then nav screen will come up saying that a new update is detected, hit yes and follow the intruction on the screen. That is it.

Do a search on this next time, this instruction has been posted on CL before.

okay, I was a little confused there at the begining. When you guys were talking about upgrading it didnt dawn on me till right now that you are talking about an update for your existing nav system

However, is it possible to switch the nav units totally? do you think you could unplug one and plug in the other just curious?

The software has also improved with the 2 upgrades I've had. I think the software is on the hard drive also.

Red face embarrassed

I think I'm retarded. I still do not understand? You guys are talking baout just swapping the harddrive? You mean just in the trunk section right? No headunit right. Just the Nav. in the trunk right?
