Question New Owner - Should I get a warranty or not?

I just purchased a 99 GS400 from a private party and wanted as much feedback as possible on whether a warranty is necessary. My car has 27K and the Lexus dealer said that they could offer me the Platium warranty that basically covers bumper to bumper for 3 yrs/48K miles for $1,585. Is this something I should consider or is it better to pocket the money and take the risk. I've heard that these cars are exetremely reliable, but this car should does have allot of toys. What do you think?

Congratulations on your purchase. I might be in the minority, but I like the peace of mind an extended warranty provides. I bought the Lexus platinum warranty (7yes/100k miles) for about $1400. I wonder why your dealer is only offering coverage until 75k miles? You might want to see if they'll cover you until 100k. Although Lexus makes reliable cars, not every one can be perfect...also, repairs out of the warranty period can be pretty expensive. I haven't had any experience w/ Warranty Gold, so I'll defer to other members who have.

i would also like to get a warranty for myself for my once-new car, let alone a used car. the extra piece of mind is really worth it, especially for something this spendy.

i always hated extended warranties, until i'm now seeing my beautiful laptop having a few seizures since it went out of warranty in january. just friggin perfect.

i'd check out the warranty gold that banana suggested, and do click the banner, as it gives CL recognition
