CEL please help

2003 gs 300 148xxx
So last night I was driving my car and out of nowhere my cel pops up. I think it's nothing to big. I go this morning to auto zone and get some bad news. P0989. Which is a shift solenoid. Although it's odd because my car seems to be changing gears very smooth. Rpms are good. So I leave autozone and the light turns off and hasent came back yet. I checked my tranny fluid and it's almost a brown color. Could this have triggered the cel light? If I have to replace it what am I looking at with labor? I can't seem to find any DIY's. Thanks everyone

I'm changing the fluid tommorw but I just want a ball park for the shift solenoid.

Had the same code. Replacing the shift solenoid is easy once you get the pan off. The code will come on after a bad shift but feels fine thereafter. Part is around $240 at Sewell.
