Hi i recently got a p0442 code which states that the evaporative emissions yada yada is at fault. I replaced the gas cap and made sure its in there really good but code still came on on numerous tries. My question is can i bypass this charcoal canister and its module?

 

I've never heard of bypassing the canister. Although, I am sure that some one with enough ingenuity could figure out a way to do. But, before I go that route I'd check for loose or leaky hoses and a faulty vacuum switch that is on the canister. Those things go bad a lot more often than the canister does.

I was able to bypass the charcoal canister by disconnecting the tube that connects from one of the pressure sensor to the other pressure sensor with the blue connector. Its been 3 days, no cel. I even passed my emissions yesterday.

is your gas cap aftermarket or OEM? I have seen plenty of P0442 codes, and 95% of the time, they are bad gas caps. Always replace a gas cap the the OEM one. Aftermarket ones are usually crap. I doubt it would be a charcoal canister, as they would generally leave p0446/p0440 codes. The only other thing to check is all the rubber lines going to the purge control valve, as they have a tendency to crack and leak with age/milage.

I'll post some pic when I get the chance to. They are the only ones with cables and vacuum tubes connected to in the charcoal canister area.

 

I replace the gas cap with two other gas caps (used but came from a no cel car) but still has cel as soon as I drove a couple of miles I have the original gas cap. I checked all the hose near the canister area for cracks, they all look great. So far it still hasnt thrown a code.. Fingers crossed.
