Default Issue with 1998 Lexus GS400 Key Remote Programming

All,

I've done a variety of searches online and have found a lot of help, but I'm thinking I have a technical issue with the car preventing me from going any further.

Before moving on, the threads I've been using:

1) https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...y-program.html

2) https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...need-help.html

I have two new keys that were cut for the car. I got the keys themselves to start the car, so that's not an issue. However the remote portion (unlock/trunk keys) do not work. Issues with the car:

1) The lock actuator does not work on the driver side door. In order to get into programming mode I need to use the actual physical lock (with the red line) to get into programming. Not a problem, I can get it into programming mode just fine now, but I don't know if this is preventing the keys from being recognized.

2) Since I was unable to get the remotes to program, I did the ignition On/Off step twice to get it to erase the original codes. Stupid? Indeed, since my original master key no longer locks/unlocks the car. I can't get any of the three remotes I have to be programmed to the car. Holding the Lock/Unlock buttons for 1, 1.5, or 2 seconds, waiting a second, and then pressing the Lock key for 1 second always (INSTANTLY) triggers the system to cycle the locks twice.

Another note is that the trunk button didn't work on the original remote either. I thought it was just an issue with the remote, but now I'm wondering if the sensor to release the trunk isn't faulty? If so, would that prevent the remotes from programming if it can't get a signal to the trunk code during programming?

At this point the car is near 300k miles, so I'm not looking to dump a lot of money into it, but I'm kind of curious at this point why the darn keys (original master included) will not program to the car.

Any help anyone can give I would greatly appreciate it!

Thank you!

Yup, that's the same issue I'm having. I just can't get the remotes to program...I just get the locks cycling twice.

Curious - does your trunk release key work OK? I'm just wondering if that's my issue.
