That would retard the timing and throw different codes....not lean bank codes

I had codes 25,51,78 When mine went it just had a hard start and horrible idle and seemed super slow response while on the throttle. I am GTE swapped and that might make some type of difference.
If the timing was retarded would that cause a lean/dump when trying to start the car and at idle?

I believe the 78 was caused by the swap.

any other reasons for lean bank 1 and bad idle?.... i am looking into getting a different ecu..not sure how much reprogramming is going to cost but I am not even sure if thats it.... rather pay for some live diagnostics or maybe go to Lexus since all the parts are new...what can they tell me... hmmm

if anyone can recommended shops or a tech in chicago please let me know.. or someone that has tools to diagnose this troll...

And OP I think we've reached the end of possibilities....worst case it's a head gasket leak that goes away after warming....best case it's a coilpack....

I watched couple videos on YouTube on Toyota and lexus to test them easily. Just start the car and pull one by one. If it's a change on idle or anything different they re good. If no change well u found the bad guy. I try it one of this days. A guy close by is selling 6 coils from a donor gs300 motor. He wants 80? Not to bad. I will test them and see what's up

Does anyone know which rings jefftsai was referring to in regards to "having low compression in the rings"? Was he referring to replacing the head gasket?

I know this is old but seriously? I read all 5 pages and Wow, can't believe you didn't get to the bottom of this yet, any updates? By the way you mentioned Jeff saying something in regards to rings not holding comression? Piston rings
