Default modification to your headlight to prevent moisture

I have had several OEM HID ballast fail on me and i suspect it to be moisture infiltration. The seals on my headlight is beginning to wear away. The location of the OEM ballast is at the bottom of the headlight, which means if excessive moisture is accumulated, ballast is sure to be exposed to water.

I am not certain if moisture is the culprit for the failed ballast, but have anyone made any kind of modification to prevent this?

Pictures? What materials are best? Is it advisable to cover up the ballast with clothes? What danger and risk?

Are the seals to the lens going bad so you're getting water inside the housing? The ballast itself shouldn't be affected by that but I guess the wiring connecting to the bulb potentially could.

Your best bet would probably be to open up the lights and reseal them with butyl rubber. It's the same material as used from the factory. theretrofitsource.com sells rolls of it for that purpose. There may be a cheaper place to get it but I'm only familiar with them.

Good luck, hopefully you get it taken care of and there's not a bigger electrical issue that's frying the ballasts.

Make sure the vents at the back of the headlight are not clogged. If the light can't breathe properly, moisture will build up and become stuck in there.
