I have a 98 gs300 that is tripping a p0753 code. The code reads that is is a problem with the shift solenoid "a". How can I tell which solenoid is "a" after I get the transmission pan off? Furthermore, is there a place to purchase a solenoid or a kit to replace all of them so i don't have to pay lexus prices? Thanks in advance for any help!
Are you sure that's the number code? P0751 - Shift Solenoid A (Valve S1).
I was looking at an IS300 manual. It uses the same tranny. Maybe it's specific to the GS. I thought all GS's got the A650E tranny in '98.
A = Shift Solenoid #1.
It's the one close to the front edge on the side of the valve body that has 5 solenoids on it. Manual shows a testing procedure. It might not be bad. A blockage can set the code too. It's on the opposite corner of the manual valve. I'd suggest double-checking my comments too.
As for parts, I'd check it first and see if it's really bad. Looks like any A650 tranny could supply the parts. You can buy a used tranny of ebay for less than one of these valves costs.

Though, this one won't work on the GS. The internal parts would though.
It refers to a different solenoid ("C") but should have all the info you need to sort your car.
