I've been suffering through a Flashing TCS light for a couple of months now. And that ain't fun. Scanner reports P0763 (shift solenoid C) lexus dealer here wants $540.00 for the Solenoid and wont even fit it with out rebuilding the entire gearbox!!! So my buddy and I took matters into our own hands, took tranny pan off..



and removed the offending solenoid, which we identified using a multi meter. 14 ohms is about right, but the offending unit..




had no resistance at all???

So, instead of dropping AUD$544.00 at the local lexus dealer, we had a play around with the solenoid, bent the plug on the solenoid back a little and voila!! It works!! car is back together. I have a full 5 gears and no flashing TCS light. All it cost was half a tube of Toyota transmission sealant (there's no gasket on there).

The unit is a NACHI BL13 Solenoid, if anyone has a clue about how to buy them from a non Lexus dealer I'd be very interested.

So the car is clean, back to full strength and it's 35 Degrees Celsius here today so I'm going swimming!!

I had the same problem a while back and I also went the same route as you to fix and it has worked fine going on 1 year now. Good job and I didn't remember seeing a post about this problem or I would have given you some advice so sorry. Hope it holds up for you too.

Hey Bombsquad - do you have any more pictures and instructions of exactly how you progressed thru this repair (troubleshooting, bending of the plug, etc.)?

I think I have the same issue on my GS400.

 

I just took my 99 GS3 in today, I have a solenoid that's gone bad as well. Is there a particular solenoid that is more likely to fail than others? Also, If one goes, is their a correlation with others being more likely to fail?

The reason I ask is if I'm likely to have another go bad, should I go ahead and replace them?

in my opinion I had one go bad, and then another and then another
so it woulda been alot better doing them all at one time
maybe you could try to bend it?

 

I know this is an old thread but, from the first pic by Bombsquad, which one is the C solenoid? And has anybody else tried bending the connectors? If so, has the CEL come on after you fixed it and if it has, how much time it lasted without the problem coming up again?

 

Is it possible to have a malfunctioning solenoid and not have it throw codes?
