gs300 tranny and torque converter HELP!!!
My brother in law picked up this2001 gs300 with 200k miles a while back with what was said to be a possible bad trans or seal.Only thing the person said was that it was leaking alot of fluid.Previous owner is a good friend of ours so theres no reason to believe otherwise. With that being said my brother pulled out the trans and replaced the main seal? and reinstalled the trans. After he installed it he refilled fluid and nothing leaked,he then turned the vehicle on and started leaking again just as bad if not worst.
He pulled the trans again and after a closer look at the torque converter saw this ring? around the shaft area of the converter, theres a small crack on it but after looking at pictures of torque converters online im not even sure that is supposed to be there vs. inside the trans.can someone please tell me if its a converter or if that small piece is from the trans and the trans needs to be replaced, hope this makes sense im going to add pics of the seal on the trans and the metal ring thats in question
the trans seal
the converter and the metal ring along with the crack

I can't see the back side of that ring completely, but it may look like a washer that is compressed together as I see a hairline of a similar outline on the bottom part of the ring.
It's times like this I usually pull out a Factory Service Manual. The manufacturer FSMs usually will tell you all about these things.

thats what I told him,he doesnt have a manual so the next best thing is good ol clublex. I forgot to mention that the ring actually pushed down towards the base of the shaft as well

It's usually pretty cheap to get an FSM vs paying for diagnostics. Of course, there's a lot of knowledge here as well, so hopefully someone has seen this before.

Looks like the TC ripped the bushing out of the front of the oil pump. I just put together a A650E the other day and that's very wrong. I've vote on you needing at least a new front pump or front pump rebuild. Might be needing a TC too. My guess is the PO ran the tranny low on fluid and it overheated/ran dry.
A650E's used are pretty cheap. I might start trying to source a used tranny.
For $15 you can sign up for 2 days of toyota TIS and get full accesss to their manuals.
