I'm pretty sure it was from a GS. Got it from the wreckers. I picked it out from a picture of a GS that had it installed.

I think Australia GS's have some variations to USDM and JDM counterparts which may explain it.

I think this explains it because based on the US models, the 01+ GS3's didn't come with tan/wood e-shifts. It was only the SD black that had wood and e-shift. Do you think that you could find another one over there?

Well I think it may be because we don't have SD in Australia. All 01+ models seem to come with SD features though, like chrome shifters and wooden e-shift wheels, so would not be that hard to find if any 01+ models were being wrecked.

Wow...OK PM me. I would like to see if you can find another wood wheel for me. Or if you can send me the link of places to search from, I'll do it myself. I would love that wheel!!

Default 1998 gs300 steering wheel swap with 2002 gs430

Will a 02 gs430 steering wheel fit a 98 gs300 and will it just plug in and install?

Probably not. Around 2001 the airbag went to a dual stage. This created a change in the wiring/harness. So while I've never done it, I hear you'll need to swap the airbag ignitor / plug from the 98 to your "new" 02 wheel in order for it to plug in. Otherwise, should bolt right up.
